The LG 34UM64-P is a capable mid-range ultra-wide 34 inch IPS monitor that offers a lot of value. It’s somewhat of an underdog in the monitor world and has largely gone unnoticed by the masses. Those who have owned it will testify to the quality of this product, although they appear to be few and far between. This monitor is bright, has a lot of contrast and a 5 ms response time that puts it among some of the best in this price range. This is definitely a monitor worth checking out, especially if you can find it at a discount.
34 Inches of Ultra-Wide Goodness
Seeing is believing with a monitor this massive. The 21:9 aspect ratio is pretty close to having two 4:3 monitors sitting side-by-side (24:9 versus 21:9). This gives you an insanely huge amount of desktop space to work with. The ultra-wide display also provides a level of immersion that you just don’t get out of a 16:9 monitor. Your entire view is engulfed all the way out to your peripheral vision. This is great for gaming but also good for digital professionals with sprawling multi-tasked projects.
IPS LED Display
If you’re not picking up an IPS LCD in 2016 then you’re missing the boat. IPS stands for In-Plane Switching and provides a whole new visual standard in terms of color depth and viewable angles. If you want a display that’s got rich, dark blacks and doesn’t wash out just because your viewing angle changed slightly then you’re going to want to go with an IPS panel.
Super Bright 300 cd/m2
A lot of people take brightness for granted or don’t even consider it at all. Brightness is crucial for allowing your monitor to represent the brightest, most vivid colors and filling more of that all important sRGB spectrum. Do you really want a boring, dull display? It really doesn’t matter what the rest of the specs are if you’ve got a dim display.
Ultra-Wide Full HD Resolution
This is the one major shortcoming of the LG 34UM64-P. The resolution is only 2560×1080. This was probably pretty good, or at least standard, back in 2014, but in terms of monitors available in 2016 it falls short. I would have much preferred a QHD resolution 2560×1440 on this display to provide an extra sharpness to text on the screen. The bigger the monitor you’re purchasing is, the more important resolution is. This monitor is huge and really needs an upgrade in the resolution department. However, if your main objective is to play games, you probably won’t notice much of a difference.
Plug Me In and Turn Me On
The one good thing about this monitor is that it has plenty of connections. You can connect to this monitor using DVI-D, HDMI or DisplayPort. Don’t worry, though, if you want to use VGA D-sub you can always get an adapter for a few bucks and connect to the DVI-D port. In terms of performance, the DisplayPort will probably be your best bet. The two HDMI ports are great for connecting your favorite game consoles to use alongside your PC.
5,000,000 to 1 Contrast Ratio
As stated above, this IPS display certainly offers vivid brights and rich, dark blacks. The dynamic contrast ratio is a whopping 5,000,000 to 1, although like most people already know, these numbers can be a bit misleading. No matter what the REAL contrast ratio is, just know that this display can certainly deliver in terms of brightness AND darkness.
5 ms Response Time
This isn’t exactly earth-shattering, although it’s not the bottom of the barrel either. I would say the most low-end displays would be somewhere around 10-12 ms response time while high-end gaming monitors come in at about 1-2 ms. In this monitor, you will get an adequate 5 ms response time that is plenty good for playing games and watching videos with sprawling textures and scenery without tearing.

The LG 34UM64-P is a relatively unknown model that has largely flown under the radar in terms of commercial sales. There aren’t a lot of customer reviews for this particular model, however, there are definitely some reviews in the negative end of the spectrum worth checking out.
I believe it would be in your best interest to click the link below to read that customer review. I would have been glad to add it to this review, however, that violates Amazon’s ToS, so I’ve done the next best thing and included a link to it below that you can use to find out for yourself. It really says a lot about LG’s customer service and is worth seeing.
