The new ASUS G752VS-XB78K OC Edition laptop is an absolute behemoth. It’s got the kind of specs you might expect to find in a supercomputer that runs Wall Street. The CPU and GPU are without a doubt top of the line and the little things like dual SSD/mechanical hard drives are a really nice touch. Absolutely everything in this laptop is supercharged and overclocked to the limit with the kind of cooling you might expect to find on a motorcycle. Hats off to ASUS for bringing us this one!
Overclock the EVERYTHING
In case you haven’t guessed by now, the OC edition stands for overclocked. This laptop starts with some of the most impressive hardware specs currently available then it pushes them to the max with overclocking. Even other laptops with similar specs won’t be able to match the performance of this overclocked beast.
The coolest thing is the control panel software that allows you to control the overclocking. It tells you how hot everything is running so you know exactly how hard you can push your hardware. This is a feature you won’t find on many gaming laptops.
NVIDIA GTX 1070 GPU with Pascal Micro-Architecture
The NVIDIA GTX 1070 GPU in this laptop is based on NVIDIA’S new Pascal micro-architecture that was introduced earlier this year. It has 8 GB of dedicated DDR5 RAM that is overclocked that pushes this world-class GPU to the limit.
This is easily the most powerful graphics chip available in any laptop on the planet. There isn’t another gaming laptop that will be able to touch it in terms of performance until the next generation of video chips is released.
Core i7-6820HK CPU
There really isn’t a lot that needs to be said about this CPU. It’s a 6th gen Intel Core processor with a whopping 8 MB of cache and clocks speeds up to 3.6 GHz. You’d be hard pressed to find a computer with a faster processor whether it be a laptop or a desktop. This CPU will tear apart anything you throw at it whether it be the latest games or video rendering software.
Dual Hard Drives
This is one of the features I really get excited about. This laptop has a HUGE 512 GB SSD to run the operating system and applications along with another giant 1 TB standard mechanical hard drive you can use for media storage and other less intensive applications.
The 512 GB SSD provides a huge performance boost, allowing you to boot your operating system and load games/applications quickly. The 1 TB of storage is really nice to have as well, even though it’s a bit slower than the SSD. You can load an almost unlimited amount of videos, music, pictures and documents on this system.
3D Mobile Vapor Chamber
This laptop vapes, we get it. But seriously, the “3D Mobile Vapor Chamber” is just a fancy way of saying it’s got a friggin huge heatsink with dual fans to cool the CPU and GPU in this system.
There’s absolutely no way on Earth you’d be able to run this hardware overclocked without some serious cooling power. The nicest thing about the gigantic cooler on the back of this beast is that you can barely hear it. I really would have assumed that it would be super loud but it really wasn’t at all.
The specs even say that you can expect up to a 6% performance increase because of the abundant cooling, although I’m not really sure if that’s true. This system is so fast that 6% would be really hard to notice without some serious benchmarking.
Gigantic 17.3″ Full HD Display
I really, really, really, REALLY wish this laptop would have come with a 4K display. For a 17.3″ screen it would absolutely be overkill, but what about this laptop isn’t overkill?
I thank the lord up above that they decided to make this screen matte instead of glossy. While this laptop isn’t the most portable in the world and probably won’t be coming with you on a trip to the park, the matte screen just looks so much nicer than a smudged up glossy screen would have.
Overall the colors are really vivid and bright. The stock photos of the display on this laptop really don’t do it justice.
Surprisingly Good Battery Life
ASUS didn’t slack when it comes to the battery on this laptop. It’s rated at 88 WHrs and gives you a much better battery life than you would expect from a laptop of this size. While the battery life is good, I don’t really expect that this laptop will have much time away from the desk.
