This Acer XF270HU 27 inch IPS QHD gaming monitor has a mid-range price with a lot of high-end features, the most impressive being the support for AMD FreeSync technology. Achieve refresh rates up to 144 Hz with the DisplayPort connection. Connect your cell phone using the HDMI port with MHL support. You can even connect USB devices to charge or connect them to your main system. The ergonomic stand gives this monitor a professional feel without costing a small fortune.
Not to be mistaken with 4K or UHD resolution. This 27-inch panel has a native (and maximum) resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, also known as QHD or Quad-HD. Quad-HD isn’t that the same as 4K?! Nope, QHD is four times 720p HD and 4K is four times 1080p HD. QHD fits comfortable between Full HD (1920×1080) and 4K UHD (3840×2160 pixels). This resolution is certainly adequate for a monitor of this size, although it isn’t going to be a “retina” display and you will likely be able to pick out individual pixels if you look close enough.
144 Hz Plus FreeSync
Using a DisplayPort connection, you can use a 144 Hz refresh rate with this monitor. If you have an AMD GPU (or supporting CPU with integrated GPU) you can also activate FreeSync which (as the name implies) syncs your monitor’s refresh rate to your GPU’s frame rate. This completely eliminates tearing, ghosting and other annoying video artifacts that are rendered when your display is too slow or too fast for your video card. This is a HUGE advantage for competitive gamers and is easy on the eyes for us old-timers.
Lots of Connectivity
You can connect just about ANYTHING to this monitor, including your smartphone with HDMI that supports MHL. There’s also another HDMI 2.0 connection, DisplayPort, and DVI. You could even get a DVI to VGA D-sub adapter if you really needed to. The only thing this monitor lacks is the new fancy USB-C and Lightning ports. I personally find DisplayPort to be more than adequate, especially when utilizing FreeSync. There’s even a four-port USB 3.0 hub you can use to connect your devices or turn your desktop into a charging station.
