Acer CB3-431-C5FM Review

Acer CB3-431-C5FM

The new Acer CB3-431-C5FM is about to change the Chromebook game forever. Acer has clearly been doing their homework to find out what people disliked about all the previous Chromebook models available. Every feature of this laptop, from the all aluminum chassis to the Full HD IPS display, is poised to dispel any complaints people had about previous Chromebook models. The specs are impressive, the display is top notch and the price tag extremely tempting.

Intel Celeron N3160 Quad-Core Processor

This new processor is like the Cadillac of energy-efficient mobile processors (cheesy, I know). It clocks in at 1.6GHz and bursts up to 2.24GHz in turbo mode. While most Chromebooks on the market lack power, this new Acer Chromebook 14 has the goods.

100% Aluminum Chassis

This is the one feature that’s sure to send a chill up the spine of most tech geeks and is the one thing that sets this model apart from all the other Chrome OS laptops currently on the market. The aluminum chassis just gives this laptop such a sturdy, solid feel. There’s really no comparison to the flimsy plastic chassis most low-end laptops sport. Not only does is it sturdy, it also looks good and helps to dissipate heat.

14″ Full HD IPS Display

Many of the Chromebook models that came out in 2014 and 2015 suffer from a common symptom: really shitty displays. Acer has apparently taken all of the criticism of previous models to heart when they came up with this new variation. It seems that they’d also like to ride on the coattails of the Toshiba Chromebook 2 that offered a Full HD IPS display as well. This display has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and looks a hell of a lot better than most of the other Chromebook models.

4GB LPDDR3 Onboard SDRAM Memory

Do yourself a favor, even if you don’t buy THIS Chromebook, definitely get one with 4 GB of RAM. This will help future-proof your investment against wherever Google decides to take their Chrome OS in the future. Having 4 GB of RAM in a Chromebook is like having 8 GB of RAM in a traditional Windows laptop because of how efficient and lightweight Chrome OS is. 2 GB is fine for LIGHT usage but 4 GB is a number I would be inclined to recommend to most people, especially tab-a-holics like myself.

32GB Internal Storage

While you might be using the cloud quite a bit, internal storage still matters. This is especially true if you don’t want your Chromebook to turn into a brick when you disconnect from the internet. The Full HD screen means you’re going to want to load your laptop up with lots of Full HD videos, and those aren’t small.

12-hour Battery Life

If you’re not buying a Chromebook for its performance, portability or battery life then what are you even doing? This laptop features a battery that can last UP TO 12 hours on a single charge. Of course, your mileage may (and WILL) vary. It all depends on how bright you have the screen set and how you’re actually using your laptop. That being said, you could certainly anticipate 6 hours of heavy use on a single charge, more than enough time to use your laptop while you’re out and about all day.

Customer Reviews

The Acer Chromebook 14 (model CB3-431-C5FM) is still a relative newcomer to the Chromebook market, however, it seems to be knocking it out of the park so far.
